A hybrid version of the BMW 3 Series announced in fall 2012
October 24, 2011
BMW engineers have taken into account ActiveHybrid technology in the first phase the architecture design of the new 3 Series. This approach optimizes the size of the hybrid system when integrated in the car.
BMW ActiveHybrid technology will give the 3 Series Hybrid extra power while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of the BMW.The BMW ActiveHybrid combines three six-cylinder petrol BMW TwinPower Turbo delivers an output of 306 hp (225 kW) with an eight-speed automatic reports specific to the hybrid that incorporates an electric motor providing power peaks up to 54 hp (40 kW).
The ActiveHybrid 3 has a power maximum total 340 HP (250 kW) and a maximum total torque of 450 Newton-meters .
With a boost function the electric motor can provide a temporary power boost complementary to the six-cylinder petrol in vivid acceleration.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 can be also in pure electric mode over a distance of three to four km . The maximum speed in electric mode is between 60 km / h in the acceleration phase and 160 km / h mode “freewheel.”
Depending on the load applied by the driver, the engine six internal cylinder petrol starts up automatically to be disengaged during deceleration phases. During phases of deceleration and braking, the electric motor acts as generator. It converts kinetic energy into electrical current injected into the battery. The interaction between the engine and the electric motor is controlled automatically by an intelligent power manager and proactive integrated power electronics plant that seeks to optimize the performance of the hybrid system as a whole . The constructor of Munich announced an average fuel consumption according to EU test cycle i probably nférieure to 6.4 liters per 100 km . Compared to a Series 3 with a power similar to combustion engine, the fuel savings is about 12.5 percent. The high voltage battery in the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 is incorporated under the floor of the trunk of the sedan that offers a luggage compartment housing 390 liters, expandable as the four-door sedan Bmw combustion engine through a trap door leading to the cockpit and a folding rear seats in 40/20/40. ” br />
